Seasonal. Sustainable. British. Beautiful.

Story of the patch

I’m Tracey, and at Castle Combe Flower Patch in North Wiltshire, I grow high quality flowers and foliage from our paddock at home. I am passionate about producing seasonal, sustainably grown blooms for local customers throughout the British growing season between April and October.

I create bouquets with the essence of the seasonal English garden with thoughtful colour combinations, arranged in a beautifully cottage garden style.

Unlike flowers from the supermarket and many florists, my bouquets have no air miles, chemicals or pesticides and Mother Nature decides when they’re available. As a champion of the wildlife, I do all I can to promote the biodiversity of my land. The wildflower area of the paddock is teeming with butterflies and bees all summer long, and the birds adore the seed heads I leave for them over the winter.

My cut flower season starts in Spring with scented narcissi, tulips, ranunculus and anemones. As the weather warms up, the peonies and roses join the party, and the roses repeat and repeat until Autumn. The beginning of June sees the true start of the summer flowers with the joy of annuals like larkspur, snapdragons and cosmos. The dahlias, asters and carnations follow into August and September, and continue until the first October frosts.

I am a member of the multi award-winning, not-for-profit, co-operative of British cut flower growers, Flowers from the Farm. If you would like to gift a bouquet to someone outside this area, you can Find British Flower Growers here who can help you. If your floral request is more than I can fulfil on my own, I can work with other local FFTF growers to deliver what you need.

Eco friendly flower farming

Large areas of paddock are left wild to support the wildlife and help biodiversity. The mix of grasses encourages invertebrates and gives a home to the voles and rabbits that I don’t want in my flower patch! This area is full of butterflies and bees during the summer months (when my chief helper, Luna the Labrador, isn’t charging around).

Castle Combe Honey

My husband, John, cares for our bees organically with a group of hives housed in our orchard surrounded by fields and natural hedgerows. The bees have plenty of variety of flora which gives the honey its fantastic flavour. Each jar will taste different, depending on the season and the flowers the bees have visited.

Our raw honey is completely natural, untreated and unpasteurised, with no additives and no nonsense. Just delicious, pure honey!

Hens

We also keep hens, mainly for the eggs, but also because they are hilariously entertaining! We have large hybrid hens and also bantams that we hatched using an incubator. They are all very friendly, but firmly turn up their egg-laying toes during the winter months. Although currently in flockdown due to the Bird Flu epidemic, our hens love nothing more than marching through any open gate and scratching out any plants in the way of them having a lovely dust bath - naughty!

“I have thoroughly enjoyed my bouquet subscription this year. Tracey’s flowers are beautiful and always smell amazing! I was so happy that my husband’s Christmas present was a subscription for 2023. I may have dropped a few hints!”
